….Easier said than done right?

So how can I stay positive in the middle of a negative world you might ask? A very important thing is to understand that as long as you deal with human beings that you will inevitably be in the presence of “toxic people.”

So here are 3 things that you can do to help you stay positive in the midst of negative people:

  • Keeping the proper mindset – As the old adage goes…. “Knowing is half the battle.” With that being said, knowing and understanding that this is not a perfect world and people are always going to be negative, you will quickly realize that you can’t change people but you can change yourself. So instead of exerting unnecessary amounts of time and energy trying to change someone else. Spend every minute you can on creating a better you!
  • Read positive and uplifting material daily – Have you ever heard the saying “readers are leaders?” Well in my           opinion this could not be more true. Some of the most successful icons in American culture have credited their success to being voracious readers. One of my favorite books is The Power of Positive Thinking.
  • Surrounding yourself with positive people – This may sound like a simple task, however many times in people’s lives the people who live under the same roof tend to be some of the most negative people in your immediate circle. So what do you do if you cannot totally eliminate negative relationships? (Such as spouses, parents, siblings, etc) The best thing to do is cut all ties with negative people, but if you are in a situation where you are unable to do so then keeping the amount of time that you spend with them to a minimum would be best. There are positive people out there… you just have to look. Engaging yourself in activities like volunteering, networking groups, and church based activities are all a good start.

Simply following these bullet points will help you on your way to staying positive in the presence of negative people. Please share your thoughts on this post and leave comments.
